Karthik Jayaram To Play A Serial Killer In ‘Kaada’

If there’s one striking trait about actor Karthik Jayaram, it’s got to be his penchant to defy stereotypes. Having begun his career on television, where he earned the name “JK” for his role as Jay Krishna on the soap opera Ashwini Nakshatra, Karthik Jayaram has striven hard ever since to create a niche for himself by picking roles that needn’t necessarily be molded as the “hero type”. Thanks to his tall frame and physique that he carries a certain command about himself on screen and this perhaps has allowed him to explore interesting territories more freely as an actor. And one such exploration, per se, is his upcoming psychological thriller ‘Kaada – The Inbuilt Evil’ wherein he plays the titular role and is also a supersmart serial killer.

“I play a character with many inherent psychological issues and the director of the film, Vishruth Naik, has based everything on extensive research about people who suffer from these problems. Many people are born with neurological disorders and that renders them incapable of being decisive about the good and the bad. Kaada in the film is a serial killer who operates as an affable IT guy during the day but is actually a dreadful serial killer but people around him don’t suspect him of it. Kaada is scary but also super smart because he doesn’t leave any shreds of evidence behind which makes him almost untraceable,” shares JK about the interesting premise of the film.

And the makers intend on exploring the character in a full-fledged manner by conceiving ‘Kaada’ as a two-part film. While the first part introduces the character and sets up the whole world, the second one harks back to his childhood and the trauma but will also take the story forward with a police investigation. Speaking about his preparation for the role, JK adds: “With the character bearing multiple personalities, the director and I stuck to a certain emotional range for the character and ensured we never breached that. Vishruth has been very particular about how much my character demonstrates through emotions and if I were to ever step out of that, he would quickly point out to tell me that it’s not “Kaada”. But the main task has been the physical one because I had to lose about 7 kilos for the film – there’s a super intense climax fight which we are going to shoot in a few days in Chikkamagulur”.
This will be Vishruth Naik’s third film as a director after making quite the impression with his previous outing ‘Manjari’; the film fetched him his maiden State Award.

Apart from Karthik Jayaram, ‘Kaada’ also includes Kavya Shetty as the female lead while Achyuth Kumar and ‘Uggram’ Manju too feature in crucial roles. The film is being produced by Splendid Films. With about seven days of shoot already completed, the team heads towards Chikkamagalur for the second and final schedule which is expected to last about 16 days. The work on the sequel is expected to begin soon after.
